Average is easy. Be something better. Success in anything requires hard work, preparation, and diligence. Be the most prepared person in the room. And... always be courageous in leading.

MGMT 9070: Legal Issues in Human Resources Management, MGMT 9040: Organizational Behavior and Development, and MGMT 9251: Policy, Legal and Ethical Issues

  • In what ways do you connect with online students?

Fitchburg State University has an outstanding online curriculum administered by Blackboard.

  • What do you want your students to take away from class?

    Business is hard!

My goal is not to make each student a lawyer, but rather to provide visibility to key legal, ethical, and business issues that enable students to become better business (and life) decision makers.

  • Why did you start teaching?

I began teaching at the college level in the summer of 1989 after receiving my JD and before notification that I had passed the Massachusetts Bar Exam.

  • What advice would you give to your MBA students?

Average is easy. Be something better. Success in anything requires hard work, preparation, and diligence. Be the most prepared person in the room. And... always be courageous in leading.

  • What qualities make someone particularly successful in business?

There is no shortcut or substitution for hard work. Commit to outwork everyone. In business, and particularly management, we are chartered with responsibilities that impact the lives of others. Lead with hard work and humility. Always shine!

  • What is the one book you think everyone should read?

“The Hot Zone: A Terrifying True Story” by Richard Preston.

  • Tell us something your students may not know about you:

As a college football player, I showed up as a freshman and immediately recognized that, while I was 18 and undersized for my position, everyone else was 22 and huge. So, when I asked my mom to take me back home, she said, "You are here because you accepted a scholarship. The college cannot give that to someone else this late and with the season starting. Give it until the first game of the season and if you don't like it, I will come get you." Three weeks later after losing a tight game to the University of New Hampshire, my mom called and asked what time she should pick me up the following morning. She knew that all it would take was a little time to acclimate and make friends. Her requirement changed my life forever.

  • What do you do when you need a laugh?

My wife of 37 years makes me laugh out loud every single day. My friends are especially good at manufacturing fun!
